Make It Make Cents: Textbooks and Textbook Affordability

Conversation with Seattle Central Student Leaders Ecko Abulikemu, Wendy Bu, and Mary Nguyen

March 14, 2022

Description: The pandemic has taught us a lot and one lesson is the cost of a textbook is still expensive! The pivot to online learning saw course packs and textbooks go digital/virtual, but this did not necessarily bring down the cost. Students, staff, and faculty have been championing Open Educational Resources (OER) and doing research on the cost of textbooks. Join student leaders as they share their perspectives on textbook affordability and learn some of their research findings and creative solutions to save some money. The more students learn about and use OER, the more we wonder, “Why aren’t all the classes using these free textbooks?”
