Archives Collection: Using Our Archives

Who We Serve

Current students and employees of the Seattle Community Colleges.

Other interested individuals who are engaged in research may be given access at the discretion of the Executive Dean for Instructional Resources.

When To Visit

Appointments may be made from 9am to 3pm, Monday through Friday; the library requires advance notice of 3 working days.

Researchers may request special arrangements for access outside these hours.

How It Works

The Archive is a closed environment and materials may not be accessed without an appointment.  The library reserves the right to impose use restrictions on fragile and restricted records.

Every researcher will be required to fill out a search record form, located onsite, which will be used to document the types of material being used and to facilitate communication from the library on additional relevant information.

Patrons will not be allowed into the Archives Collection; library staff will retrieve all archival materials.

What's Permitted

The only items allowed in the research area when archival materials are being viewed are:

 - loose-leaf paper

 - soft lead pencil

 - laptop

 - smartphone

What's Prohibited

For the protection of the items in our archives, the following items are not permitted in the research area:

- Food or Drink

- Coats and jackets

- Notebooks, binders, folders

- Backpacks and purses

Library staff will place personal belongings in a separate secure space behind the circulation desk.
